I've previously drawn faces with their eyes closed or downcast, but these stained self-portraits appear more ominous. The process of drawing my own face, that I then destroy, suggests both possession and alienation—I am both absent and present in these images. Once again I find myself investigating the monstrous, the obscured, the familiar combined with the strange. I am drawing my own mortality.

I've previously drawn faces with their eyes closed or downcast, but these stained self-portraits appear more ominous.
